THE SUMMER HOUSE

The Summer House is a small village houses which has been cleverly designed to give a feeling of spaciousness, light and air. This charming cottage has been carefully re-modelled to provide accommodation which is both extremely comfortable and well appointed. It incorporates traditional features and high quality finishes but is fresh, bright and stylish along the lines of an exceptionally superior beach hut! Striped fabrics, wooden floors, colourful rugs and painted Scandinavian furniture, co-exist with comfy sofas, paintings of the Cornish school and collections of sea shells !

Clever use of seaside colours, soft blues, creams and yellows, creates a sunny, warm atmosphere, enhanced by extensive use of wooden panelling and sophisticated twenty first century lighting !

The Summer House is brightly painted in warm yellow and blue and occupies the middle position of three cottages, in a pedestrian-only part of the village. It can be reached on foot from a stepped path direct from the sea-front at Marine Parade. During the evenings in the summer and at all times during the off-season period (November to March), cars can be parked below the cottage on Marine Parade. At other times cars can be readily parked in the Harbour car park or the main village car park, on a daily or weekly rate (approx. £15 / week in the main car park).

The house has been cleverly converted to provide deceptively spacious accommodation. Downstairs the front door opens into a small panelled lobby, with plenty of hanging space, which leads into the main living area. The south facing front of the cottage has been opened up to provide wonderful views over the bay and the dining area takes full advantage of this prime position. The mild climate enjoyed by St Mawes means that throughout the year on fine days, the French windows to the small front terrace, can be flung wide open to maximise the feeling of an ‘inside / outside’ garden room. The lovely, sunny front terrace is large enough for a table and chairs and summer barbecues and is perfect for al-fresco dining and boat-watching !

The main part of the open plan living area is comfortably and stylishly furnished and provides a welcoming, half-panelled, sitting room. There is a stylish blue log burner in the oak beamed fire place, which along with the background heating system, ensures a warm, cosy atmosphere, even on blustery winter days. The sitting room is equipped with a television, video player and hi-fi system and there are plenty of games and books, as well as a stock of ‘in-house’ videos, for your entertainment !

Towards the rear of the ground floor is the kitchen, which is entered via internal French windows from the sitting room. The brand new kitchen is fitted with attractive, co-ordinated, cream painted cupboards and dresser, with a limestone floor, as well as the standard selection of all new equipment including dishwasher, fridge, freezer, ovens and hob, extractor hood, micro-wave etc. The rear of the kitchen opens through French windows to a small rear courtyard, useful for the drying of wet suits etc. !

A bathroom is also found at the rear of the ground floor, with the usual equipment, including shower taps, with half-height limestone tiles and panelled walls. A washing machine is built into a cupboard within the bathroom.

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, a full tiled shower room and separate loo. The two front bedrooms both have lovely views across the bay. Both the blue room and the yellow room have comfortable double beds, and the yellow room also has a built in set of bunks. The small rear bedroom has a pine 4ft double bed – or it can be a single if 4ft is too cosy! There is also a fold–up cot and high chair in the cottage.

So as you can see from the above, there is actually bed space for 8 people but due to the overall small size of the cottage, we restrict bookings to a maximum of 6 and let you sort out the best sleeping arrangement for your family or group !
